Sandals Resorts International (SRI) has announced a USD $200 million restoration of three Jamaican resorts. Following Hurricane Melissa last fall, Sandals Resorts International reopened five of its eight Jamaica properties in December with Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals Royal Caribbean, and Sandals South Coast remaining closed for assessment.
Adam Stewart, Executive Chairman of Sandals Resorts International, found a silver lining in the closures. He said, “With our doors closed, we were given something we almost never have in hospitality, a true blank canvas and having that clarity changed everything. We spent time walking the properties, speaking with our team and thinking about our guests. At a pivotal moment, it became clear: we shouldn’t simply restore what was there. We should dream bigger. When we welcome our guests back, they’ll see the transformation and they’ll feel exactly why we chose to use this moment to create something worthy of their loyalty.”
The company seized the opportunity to undertake a comprehensive transformation of the three resorts, which will reopen in late 2026. Sandals South Coast in Whitehouse, will reopen on November 18, 2026. Additionally, Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals Montego Bay will reopen on December 18, 2026.
The reimagination of the resorts will result in striking new arrival moments. Resorts will overlook the Caribbean Sea and there will be new accommodation categories. There will also be redesigned pools, and refreshed lounge and social spaces. However, Sandals has stayed true to its roots and will preserve the sense of place and unmistakable spirt of the resorts.
Guests who want to visit Jamaica and stay at a Sandals resort before the reopenings, can choose from Sandals Royal Plantation, Sandals Ochi, Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Negril, and Beaches Negril.
