The Caribbean Tourism Organization has announced Guyana as the host for the 2026 State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC), to take place in Georgetown from October 5–9, 2026. This will mark the first occasion the country stages the CTO’s flagship conference, drawing extensive regional and international participation.
SOTIC convenes policymakers, industry executives, media, youth delegates and other stakeholders. They will address pressing sector challenges, share innovations and shape policy directions. Organizers expect several hundred delegates to attend, offering platforms for debate, capacity building and partnership development across the Caribbean tourism ecosystem.
Guyana’s tourism minister framed the selection as recognition of the country’s growing role in regional tourism leadership and its capacity to support Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) — a high-value business travel segment. Government and private-sector investments in infrastructure, sustainability initiatives and cultural tourism form part of the rationale for hosting the conference.
CTO leadership highlighted Guyana’s alignment with the organization’s 2026 priorities, which emphasize community-focused visitor experiences and resilient, inclusive growth. The choice reflects an emphasis on destinations that combine ecological offerings, cultural depth and event-ready facilities.
Key planning points (to be rolled out by CTO and local authorities):
- Dates and location: Georgetown, October 5–9, 2026.
- Expected participants: regional tourism leaders, international delegates, policymakers, journalists, youth and industry stakeholders.
- Core themes: innovation, sustainability, community-centered tourism and MICE development.
- Announcements pending: registration details, full programme and venue confirmation.
Stakeholders stressed that SOTIC 2026 will offer Guyana a stage to present ecotourism, adventure experiences and cultural assets alongside conference infrastructure. The event aims to expand Guyana’s visibility in Caribbean tourism markets and to foster collaborative initiatives that support long-term sector development.
