Titled “Tourism and Peace: Out of Many, One Love,” the mural is a vibrant representation of Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage. Located on Peters Lane, it pays homage to core elements of Jamaica. The masterpiece features the island’s music, food, artists, and attractions and activities.

The strong artistic statement was the handiwork of lead muralist Sheldon Blake and his assistant Rohan Cargill. It is a symbol of the connection between tourism, peace, and cultural exchange. The mural is a poignant reminder of how resilient the country is, its commitment to peacebuilding efforts and the pivotal role of tourism in uniting cultures in Jamaica.

In his message read by Permanent Secretary, Jennifer Griffith, Minister of Tourism, Hon. Edmund Bartlett expressed that the mural was a reflection of Jamaica’s thriving tourism sector. He said that tourism has done a lot for Jamaica and the mural is a representation of that, specifically its ability to unite the people, break down barriers, heal divides and celebrate the beauty of diversity.

Wade Mars, Executive Director of TPDCo, emphasized the mural’s deep connection to Kingston’s identity. He said that Kingston is the heartbeat of Jamaica and in addition to being the capital city and a hub for commerce and government, it is a cultural landmark. Mars also said that the mural is a fitting addition to the Downtown Kingston Art District.

There was also excitement from Deputy Director of Kingston Creative, Janet Crick. She is elated about the addition of murals to the space and the resulting impact of artwork on the community. She is hopeful that the new mural will bring much more love to the city and the country.
