CTO Chairman Calls for Increased Investment in the Caribbean

The chairman of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation has issued a call for more investment in the Caribbean. At the recent inaugural USA -Caribbean Investment Forum at the New York Marriott Marquis, Mr. Kenneth Bryan shared that the Caribbean is an excellent choice for investment. He spoke about the region’s core attractions which are its beaches, crystal-clear waters, cultures, and warm people.

Although the Caribbean is the fastest growing region for tourism, there are many challenges that its countries are facing. Some of these challenges are vulnerability to climate change, and a heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels. The chairman said that governments in the region must seek sustainable investment and innovation.

The chairman, who is also the Minister of Tourism in the Cayman Islands mentioned the importance of sustainable tourism to the Caribbean. In recent years, the sustainable tourism and renewable energy sectors have been at the forefront for growth in the region.

He also noted that travellers are more environmentally conscious and thus seek out destinations and properties that push sustainability and eco-friendliness. And, to because of this increased interest, investors could get involved in sustainable tourism development projects. Some of the examples shared by Chairman Bryan include energy-efficient designs, waste reduction and responsible water management.

Mr. Bryan extended an invitation to investors to become part of the Caribbean story. By investing, they will be part of the region’s economic growth, community empowerment, sustainability, and travel experiences. However, he cautioned that although the Caribbean is open to foreign investments, any investments must benefit the citizens and residents and create a positive social impact.
